I'm starting work on porting RD Tabs to run natively on 64-bit platforms (specifically the "x64" platform).

This will be difficult because I don't have a PC running a 64-bit OS yet... But what I did in this first version was set the compiler options to 64-bit platforms, then I downloaded and imported the 64-bit version of MSTscAx.dll, and here's what came out!

I need some 64-bit testers! Let me know if this works.

Note that RD Tabs Update will continue to feed you 32-bit versions of the application for the immediate future because I don't have 32/64-bit detection built into the updater yet.

Here's the URL to the beta 64-bit version of the stable 2.0.8 release.

Hey Tim

Any chance of doing a build based on 2.0.11 or is it a lot of work ? I have a couple of machines running Vista X64 now and would like to try it.

BTW - 32bit runs fine on x64 too 🙂

RD Tabs 32 works on Vista 64? Really? I had a couple testers not have success because RD Tabs specifically is tied to the 32-bit version of the MSTSCAX.DLL, of which only one version can be registered on a system at a time. The x64 version includes the 64-bit version of MSTSCAX.DLL. Specifically the crashes would occur when attempting to initialize the RDP interface.

Can you confirm that RD Tabs 32 works on Vista 64?

Also, I'll gladly update RD Tabs x64 to 2.0.11 as soon as somebody can confirm that 2.0.8 x64 works (at all) on a 64-bit machine. :-)

Awesome! I had no idea...

Still, the 64-bit version won't require WOW. Let me know if 2.0.8 x64 works and if it does, I'll release a 2.0.11 build.

At that point, the 32-bit control is no longer included anywhere. Does the "Using RDP Control Version" under "About" say "AxMSTSCLib.AxMsRdpClient5" ?

If so, all is well, and you probably just discovered a bug in the installer. Let me whip up a 2.0.11 for you today and try to fix the installer and you can let me know how it works. Sound good?

I think it's trying to register the language file (which just contains text) as a DLL... I'll know more later today.

Thanks!

Ahhh - cant check 2.0.8 as I had to manually remove the MSI so I could carry on using 2.0.11 x32 so I can do some work !

No problem at all testing x64 builds for you

Okay, try this one! It looks like it was just an installer issue.

Hi

That installer works fine, however task manager in Vista shows RDtabs.exe as a 32bit task...... V odd..

I did have to uninstall the 32 bit version as the x64 installer said a newer version was already installed....

I think that was my bad. It's one thing or another. I think I may have left the "x86" platform set. Check this out. This is 2.0.12 which is coming out later tonight. You get to have it in all its 64-bit glory before anybody else... err... well hopefully anyway. :-)

BTW, it's still "beta" because I haven't implemented logic into the updater to know to download the 64-bit build instead of the 32-bit build. 🙂 That's coming in 2.1.
