My central IT department pushed updates over the weekend and I started getting this message every time I connected to a server (incriminating evidence removed):

UserPostedImage

After going through the list of patches, I narrowed it down to a couple and found that removing KB2830477 prevented the message from appearing.

According to Microsoft, that update is not security but some visual enhancements for Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2830477

Will this update be supported in a future version of RDTabs?

First I want to say good job on figuring out the cause there!

I need to get my Windows 7 test box updates so I can try to recreate over here. But try this. It might help.

Tools -> Options, then check "Cache connection properties." This enables a less paranoid security mode on the remote desktop interface. It might make that warning go away. Let me know.

I can't replicate this on my test machine, but I still think that setting will help. My guess is that there are some other security settings (perhaps in the IE "zones") that are contributing to this. Public mode will no longer be the default operating mode for newer versions of RD Tabs. It's really only needed if you have a shared account or something and even then it doesn't cache anything really sensitive like passwords.

Thanks Timothy. I suspect it's related to our Gateway servers; the MS KB article states something about Server 2008 R2 or later being required, and I have yet to hear what OS our TS gateways run. For now, we've removed that KB from our patching and will continue testing.
